Many indigenous pastors in outback churches have little or no income. Their churches cannot support outreach and discipleship programmes.
The Bible Society aims to assist pastors by providing them with appropriate scriptures to enable ministry initiatives and opportunities to be taken up without relying on the pastor to pay for the ‘tools of trade’.
Churches need the Word of God in order to grow strong disciples and to equip people for ministry. These may not always be printed scriptures. Audio players with scripture readings are an essential part of remote area ministry but the audio players are more expensive than printed Bibles.
Pastors cannot afford to buy the audio players but they are often the best tool for reaching whole communities as people listen to scripture, read in their own language, and engage in community discussion as a result of what is heard.
