New principal of SMBC, Rev Stuart Coulton

Rev. Stuart Coulton has been appointed today as the new Principal of Sydney Missionary and Bible College.

Coulton has been serving as the Interim Principal of the College since Rev. David Cook resigned from his 26 years in the role at the end of 2011.

Coulton, who trained and practiced as a lawyer, has over fifteen years of pastoral experience as a minister of the Presbyterian Church serving as a pastor in both Burwood and Blacktown.

Church History, Spiritual Formation, Pastoral Care and Introduction to Degree Theology are the areas in which Coulton lectures, in addition to serving as a Vice Principal for the last eight years, with a particular responsibility for student pastoral care. In 2011, IVP published Coulton’s book,  ‘Hitting the Holy Road: A guided tour of Christian history from the early church to the Reformation.’ He began lecturing part time at SMBC in 1987 and full time from 2002.

SMBC is the oldest interdenominational Bible college in Australia sending graduates out into gospel work for nearly 100 years.

“The conviction that shapes Stuart’s life and ministry is that only through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ can people come into a right relationship with God, receive forgiveness for their sins and know the hope of eternal life,” says SMBC general manager, Greg Swanton in a press release today.

Swanton says Coulton is passionate for SMBC to continue training men and women to be effective gospel workers throughout the world. “He is unwavering in his commitment to the central place of the Bible in theological and cross-cultural training.”
