Read the Bible with… Kylie Zietsch

Where do you live and go to church?

I live in North Rocks and go to Toongabbie Anglican Church.

What was the first book of the Bible you ever read?

I don’t know what it was because my parents read the Bible to me when I was small. But when I was older I remember reading the book of Luke and being struck by the woman at the well and how Jesus loved her.

Name a Bible character you resonate with and why.

I really love Peter. He is wonderfully passionate but kind of a disaster at the same time. He says things that are silly but then really comes through in the end. I think he is great!

What’s one thing from the Bible that’s stuck in your brain at the moment?

We read Mary and Martha at Bible study this week. I was struck by Jesus’ words to Martha that spending time at his feet is more important than doing little tasks. Lots to think about for me!

Name one part of the Bible you keep coming back to again and again and why.

I really love reading 2 Corinthians about how the message of Jesus seems unimpressive but is really precious.

Describe one of your Bible reading failures and what you learnt.

For a year I didn’t read the bible because I didn’t want to be legalistic. I changed negatively. It was then that I realised how precious the Bible is and how I had been being ridiculous.

What advice would you give someone struggling to read the Bible each day?

Just read a few verses and mull over it for a week. Don’t try and read too much. Just soak it in a little and you will start to crave it.

And just for fun, if you were a monster what would be your defining feature?

I would be a green monster and would have four eyes.
