In 2012, our research showed that 80 per cent of Australian Christians didn’t have a daily Bible reading habit. The reasons people gave for not reading the Bible daily included that they thought they didn’t have time, that the Bible is hard to understand and that they weren’t convinced that Bible reading was a priority.
So we created Live Light in 25 Words. The average length of a Bible verse is around 25 words, so in October 2012 we asked Australian Christians to commit to reading just one verse (or 25 words) from the Bible a day, for 31 days. A Bible reading habit can grow from there!
Over 11,000 Christians and 2,600 churches signed up to be part of the campaign and it was a thrill to read the Bible together with so many of our brothers and sisters in Christ for the whole month.
Today, Bible Society is continuing our commitment to help Australians read their Bible daily through Daily Bible. What started as an email Bible reading service for 31 days in 2012 is now a 365 day service!
We’re sending thousands of Australian Christians a short Bible passage and reflection every morning and you can be part of it.
